Your private situation changes

Changes in your private situation may affect your pension situation. In a number of cases you should take action or you can make a number of choices.

You start living together

Are you about to start living together? Then your partner may be entitled to a partner's pension. Therefore you should register your partner through your employer, provided that you have been living together for at least six months and are both registered at the same address. Please provide your employer with your partner's details. Your employer will then register your partner with Delta Lloyd.

What is a partner's pension?
A partner's pension is a benefit for your partner. What happens on your death? Under certain conditions, Delta Lloyd pays out the lifetime partner's pension. The conditions and the amount of the partner's pension depend on your pension scheme. Your Uniform Pension Statement (UPS) indicates the amount of the partner's pension.

You are (getting) married

Are you getting married or are you married? Then your partner may be entitled to a partner's pension. Delta Lloyd will automatically receive your partner's data from the municipal personal records database. You do not need to take any action. If you have a registered partnership, you do not need to take any action either.

You have or are having children

An orphan's pension has been arranged for your children. In the event of your death, your children will receive an orphan's pension until they reach a certain age. Ask your employer whether or not you need to register your children.

Your relationship has ended

Has your relationship ended? This has a considerable impact on your pension situation. There are two possibilities:

  1. Did you live together? Then your ex-partner is entitled to the partner's pension built up (accrued) up to the end of the relationship. We call this the special partner's pension.
  2. Were you married or in a registered partnership? Then your ex-partner is entitled to the partner's pension built up (accrued) up to the end of the relationship. We call this the special partner's pension. In addition, your ex-partner is entitled to half of the old-age pension built up (accrued) during the relationship. You can make other arrangements with your ex-partner about this. You can specify this in the divorce agreement.

Special partner's pension
Your ex-partner will receive the partner's pension which you built up (accrued) until the end of the relationship. We call this the special partner's pension. Did you have a cohabitation agreement? Then you should cancel your partner's registration through your employer. Delta Lloyd will inform you and your ex-partner about the amount of the special partner's pension, if applicable.

Old-age pension division
Were you married or in a registered partnership? In this case, in addition to the special partner's pension, your ex-partner is entitled to half of the old-age pension built up (accrued) during the relationship. In the divorce agreement you can establish other agreements about the old-age pension division. If you inform Delta Lloyd of the agreements within two years after your divorce, Delta Lloyd will arrange the payments to your ex-partner when you retire. If you do not inform Delta Lloyd, you and your partner will have to arrange the division yourselves.

Inform Delta Lloyd of your divorce
You can inform Delta Lloyd of your divorce using the 'Mededeling scheiding in verband met verdeling ouderdomspensioen' form (Notification of Divorce in Relation to Old-age Pension Division form, Dutch only). You can also indicate how you want to divide the old-age pension. You have a number of options. Read the 'Pensioen en scheiden [PDF] ' leaflet (pension and divorce leaflet, Dutch only) for more information about the effects a divorce may have on your pension.

You are moving

Inform Delta Lloyd of your new address through your employer. Please note: moving abroad may affect your state old-age pension.

You pass away

In the event of your death, a number of matters have been arranged for your relatives.

  • Surviving Dependants benefit through the government
Under certain conditions your partner is entitled to a Surviving Dependants benefit (ANW benefit) from the government. Please check the SVB website to see if your partner is eligible.
  • Partner's Pension through Delta Lloyd
Your partner may be entitled to a partner's pension. The conditions and the amount of the partner's pension depend on your pension scheme. Your Uniform Pension Statement (UPS) indicates the amount of the partner's pension.

If you live in the Netherlands and die, Delta Lloyd will automatically be notified of your death. Delta Lloyd will then send your partner a form. Your partner should check this form, complete it if necessary, and return it to Delta Lloyd.

If you live abroad and die, Delta Lloyd will not be informed automatically that you have passed away. This is why your partner should send a copy of the death certificate to Delta Lloyd. Delta Lloyd will then send your partner a form. Your partner should check this form, complete it if necessary, and return it to Delta Lloyd.

ANW gap insurance
Do you have an ANW shortfall insurance? Then your partner will be entitled to a supplementary benefit until they reach the state old-age pension age. This is the ANW gap insurance. Your pension introductory letter indicates whether you are insured for an ANW gap insurance.

Orphan's pension through Delta Lloyd
In the event of your death, your children will receive an orphan's pension up to a certain age. Your Uniform Pension Statement (UPS) indicates the amount of the orphan's pension.
The orphan's pension is arranged simultaneously with the partner's pension. We arrange this automatically. Your partner or children don’t have to take any action.
